Nonny is a classically trained musician, having studied piano, classical guitar, history of music, harmony and composition. She is a writer member of the Performing Right Society and has been placed in national songwriting competitions. Nonny spent five years as Composer in Residence at a Shropshire school, teaching Music, Speech and Drama, and her work has been performed at some prestigious and diverse venues.

Nonny James is now kept busy with an eclectic mix of gigs... as a successful musician, playing piano and singing solo, or as a duo (with sax) or trio (with sax and guitar)... and as an entertainer - combining her love of music and comedy - for after dinner "cabaret".

"Nonny James is an excellent all-round entertainer, raconteur, singer and musician"
Redditch Group of WI's

"Hi Nonny, Fantastic! What a great performance you gave yesterday. We thought having seen you before that you would be good but we didn't appreciate just how good! Your combination of mirth, music and mischief was great. Your skilful involvement of the audience worked so well and the way in which you communicated with them on an individual basis was great. Many, many thanks for providing an excellent after lunch entertainment."

"Hi Nonny, I don't normally do this but felt I should thank you so much for your entertainment. I had loads of people saying how much they enjoyed your time with us and nice comments about how friendly you are - even off stage! Many thanks again"
Audrey, Worcester

"Nonny works across a broad spectrum of music along spiritual, jazz, folk and gospel lines, and has the reputation of leaving her audiences spellbound"
Write up - Stourport Jazz and Gospel gig

"Dear Nonny, Just wanted to say thank you for such an excellent 'show' you put on for us. There was something for everyone - always nice to see a professional at work - got the audience eating out of your hand! Thanks again. You did us proud. God Bless You"
Rev'd Nick Wright, Inkberrow

"We were highly entertained by the very popular Nonny James who did not disappoint with her repertoire of songs, jokes and anecdotes. Nonny can always be relied upon to give 110% and had us all in stitches"
North Claines W.I.

"James is a versatile singer capable of moving between genres. Her voice was powerful and soulful and she put her own stamp on standards such as "Summertime" and "God Bless The Child". She tackled soul with Carole King's "Natural Woman" in gospel style, even eliciting an audience singalong. James' set was well received and she returned for an encore of "Wonderful World". It had been an enjoyable and good humoured set with an interesting mix of familiar and less well known material"

"Just to pass on very many positive comments from our VIPs at our event last night. Our Vice-Chancellor has asked that I pass on that she enjoyed the music greatly"
University of Wolverhampton

Her roots lie with the blues and rock music of the early 70s. She was the vocalist/keyboard player with the legendary Worcestershire band "Moonshine" during the late 70s and early 80s.

In the late 80s and early 90s she formed the Midlands
trio "Sarabande" with flautist Alan Tipple and guitarist Chris Dumville:

"The precise harmony and quality blend of guitar and keyboard are truly beautiful"
The Stage

"They really are super and well worth taking a listen to"
Richard Walker, BBC Radio

"Their music is exciting for its high class performance and interpretation. The fusion of different types of music can produce startling results... Sarabande are a classic example of this"
